2017—The Year of Injections & Fillers

As medical advances continue to lengthen life expectancy, an aging population has turned to cosmetic surgery to help their appearance match their inward health. From targeted facial treatments to body contouring procedures, there is an incredible range of surgical options for patients looking to make aesthetic changes.

While cosmetic surgery in general is on the rise, injections and fillers are likely to continue their upward surge in popularity in 2017 due to the emergence of new products and techniques. Below are three procedures set to take over the cosmetic surgery scene this year.

  • Cosmetic fillers target specific areas of the face and are used to reduce wrinkles and smile lines, add volume, and improve skin elasticity and firmness. Many injectable fillers are available in the United States, including Botox Cosmetic, Juvederm Voluma, Juvederm Volbella and Restylane Lyft.
  • Fat-busting injections like Kybella are simple procedures that use deoxycholic acid, a substance your body naturally produces to absorb fat. After injection, fat cells are broken down and flushed from the system leaving a smoother, tighter appearance. These injections can also be used to eliminate lipomas.
  • Platelet-rich plasma injections are fairly new to the cosmetic surgery scene, but are applicable to hair regrowth, facial contouring, lip enhancement and even vaginal rejuvenation procedures. Prior to injection, platelets are separated from other blood cells and their concentration is increased during a process called centrifugation.
