Orbera Balloon

What is Orbera®?

Comprehensive two-part program designed to provide effective, motivating results that you can see. With ORBERA® patients on average lose 3.1 times the weight they would with diet and exercise alone.

  • Starts with a soft balloon placed in your stomach for six months to reinforce proper portion control.
  • The ORBERA® balloon take up space in your stomach helps you eat smaller meals.
  • Balloon is temporary and placed in your stomach for six months without surgery or any incisions
  • Patients will receive coaching from a team of experts, which may include a dietician, psychologist, and exercise physiologist
  • Coaching continues after balloon is removed at six months for a total of 12 months

The ORBERA® Intragastric Balloon System is a weight-loss system that uses a gastric balloon made out of soft silicone that occupies space in the stomach. With less stomach space available, patients are forced to adapt to healthier portion sizes, ultimately leading to improved weight loss. It has been shown that with Orbera, patients lose up to 3X the weight of diet and exercise alone!

Who is a candidate?

If you are an adult suffering from obesity (BMI > 30) and in search of a non-surgical treatment option, ORBERA® might be just right for you!

How it works?

Non-surgical procedure done under a mild sedative, the thin and deflated ORBERATM balloon is placed into the stomach. It is then filled with saline until it’s about the size of a grapefruit. The procedure typically takes about 20-30 minutes so you can go home the very same day At six months, the balloon is removed in the same way it was placed. Through a non-surgical procedure done under a mild sedative, it is deflated first then removed

How long?

This is an outpatient procedure that only takes about 15 minutes with no stay required.

When will I see results?

The weight loss is rapid with the majority of weight loss typically occurring in the first three months of treatment. On average patients lost 3.1 times the weight loss of diet and exercise alone. The adjustments to your eating habits and your continued efforts to stay active will greatly influence your results. During the 6 months where the ORBERA® balloon is inside the stomach is when patients see the most drastic weight loss.

Will I maintain my weight loss after removing the ORBERA® balloon?

After the ORBERA® balloon is taken out, the goal is to have the patient accustomed to healthy habits in order for them to maintain their hard earned weight loss. It is important to remember that the Orbera balloon is only a tool to help build healthy, lifelong habits.

Can I receive diet advice?

During the entire 12-month ORBERA® weight loss program, patients will have regular face-to-face sessions with their treatment team, dietitian, fitness trainer, psychologist and exercise psychologist. We will be there for you every step of the way!
